Greetings!
July 2008
I am delighted to be your new pastor at
Central UMC! I've heard you are a vital, caring congregation, and
feel certain we will enjoy being in ministry together! I look
forward to hearing more about you as a congregation and getting to know
you as individuals and families. I want to hear your hopes,
dreams, and struggles and your God-given vision for your church.
Getting acquainted can be a lot of fun.
As the new pastor, there are certain questions people usually ask
me: Where are you from? How long have you been a
pastor? What about your family? Do you have any
hobbies? What do you want to be called? So here goes:
I was born in California and ordained there in 1984, but came to
Virginia in 1993 as a pastor, and have been serving churches in our
Annual Conference since then. My undergraduate degree is in
zoology and I worked as a marine biologist for a number of years before
God called me into seminary and full-time ordained
ministry. I graduated with an M.Div. from Bethel
Theological Seminary in 1984 and earned my D.Min. in worship and
Christian spirituality from Drew in 2005.
As a child, I attended church off and on, but stopped attending
altogether as a teenager. It wasn't until I was older and had a
family of my own that I returned to regular church attendance. I
finally accepted God's offer of forgiveness and new life in Christ in
August of 1976, at a Billy Graham Crusade in San Diego. Once I
committed my life to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, things have never
been the same!
My husband David and I have five wonderful children between us (all
grown and on their own) and seven grandchildren, with one more
grandchild due to arrive in October. As all live in other states,
we don't get to see them as often as we would like-
David enjoys working as a teacher or substitute teacher, and has also
served as a preacher and pastor in the Salvation Army and Church of the
Brethren. He plays the keyboard, accordion, harmonica, trumpet
and trombone. Together we enjoy Christian music, working in the
yard and exploring back roads. We have two cats: Grits and
Leo; and a dog, Lacey. I enjoy playing my guitar and singing,
reading, and riding my horse, April. We will be living in
Staunton at 418 Rainbow Drive.
You can call me Pastor, Pastor Stephanie, Rev. Sault, or Dr. Sault, depending upon which is most comfortable for you.
We've been in prayer for you during this time of change, and thank you
for your prayers for us as we move in and find our way around.
God is with us all; God has good plans for us. We look forward to
being with you.
In Christian love,
Pastor Stephanie
