Celebrating November
It may sound a little weird but I think November is a great month. Some
Novembers are better than others, but still in the overall scheme of
things November is great. Perhaps you are a bit curious about all this,
so let me explain.
A lot of very good things happen in November. First, let me confess
that I was born in November. That may not send goose bumps up and down
your spine but it does a lot for me! I have enjoyed life, not every day
mind you but in the overall scheme of things life has been very good.
While I do not know what the coming days will bring I have good reason
to believe there will be a lot of very good days coming my way.
The second thing about November is that Deborah and I were married in
November. I don't know that it has been such a good deal for Deborah
but I made out very well in the deal! So, that is another reason I like
November.
November is the month when we celebrate Thanksgiving. I cannot imagine
anyone not enjoying that very special day. Food, family, fun and
frolicking in the cold are enough to make me smile on a cool, gray day.
I can scarcely wait even though I've got to do something about the
overeating I've done throughout the year!
Advent comes in (or immediately after) November. I really look forward
to Advent. There is an excitement in the air and the worship of the
Church takes on added meaning. Of course everyone is busy preparing for
Christmas but still November carries sufficient excitement. Part of
that excitement for me is because in the way the Church calculates time
it is the beginning of the new worship year. We begin again telling the
ancient story of God acting in human history to let us know God's love
and faithfulness to each of us.
So, for me November is great. There is one more thing that I want to
celebrate.I like spending November with people just like you, so, I
hope to see you in Sunday School and Church.
Grace and Peace,
David
